Cellulite! We hate it! The fact is, cellulite is a medical term. Cellulite describes the interaction of fat cells with subcutaneous connective tissue lying just under the skin. We all have seen cellulite, the strange dimpling, orangy-peeling looking skin, usually around a woman’s thighs and hips. Obviously cellulite affects far more women than men, and also occurs mostly from the abdomen to the thighs. It is not an affliction associated with being overweight; extremely slim females also present with cellulite. So what can you do to get rid of cellulite?

In some people, fat collects in pocket-type areas that do not smoothly integrate withing connective tissue; the visual result is puckery/dimpling/lumpy skin. Cellulite does not mean you are unhealthy or unfit. You just want it gone, right? Cellulite, unfortunately does not have a cure, but there are ways to improve the appearance of cellulite.

In order of affordability:

1. If you are overweight, slim down. It is true, slender women are affected, but you may see dramatic results if you would benefit by dropping a dress size. Cost: varies; free to paid membership.

2. Exercise. Who would have thought? Cost varies based on self-discipline.

3. Creams There are aminophylline-based creams that temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite; aminopylline is also used to reduce the inflammation of respiratory swelling such as asthma.

4. Massage. In rare instances women claim to have benefited from massage, deep-tissue and otherwise. Cost varies; usually per hour, sometimes sold as a package. Deep massage can temporarily mask cellulite because the surrounding tissue swells in response to the massage.

5. Mesotherapy This is extremely popular in Europe, and has been getting more acclaim in the U.S. lately. Mesotherapy involves a series of injections of a combination of substances designed to help diminish the appearance of fat pockets under the skin. It can be combined with a mechanical treatment, a series of machine-generated sessions which roll, suck, vacuum and massage the skin. These treatments are expensive, usually several hundred dollars/series.

Myth: Liposuction cures cellulite

Liposuction is a procedure. Fat cells are vacuumed out of the body. Liposuction is rarely effective with cellulite; it never claimed to be. Liposuction is designed to treat stubborn fat areas that persist in spite of weight loss and exercise, such as ‘love handles’, double chin, etc.

If there was a cure for cellulite I wold have found it; I have been cursed since I was in my 20′s. I think the solution for each of us is to do our best (eat right, stay fit), and be real (love what you have). And when there IS a cure, I will telling you NOW. You deserve it!
