Why We Love Botox

Botox has now been used for a number of years for men and women that want to hide signs of aging; before you use this substance it could be worth dispelling a few myths that are attached. The product Botox is derived from Botulinum toxin, discovered nearly five decades ago. It was initially used to treat patients with neurological problems.

In 1989 it was finally approved by the FDA to treat eye muscle disorders ; conditions that caused uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes were treated first. In the year 2000 botox was approved to treat cervical dystonia; this eases the pain from serious contractions in the shoulders and neck. It was approved to be used on another more unusual eye condition. Scientists then found that if the Botox drug was injected into the lines between the eyebrows it would gradually soften them and make them disappear; it was in 2002, after this discovery, that it also was approved for cosmetic use.

Now, Botox is injected into a number of areas, one of which is the forehead. When given sufficient injections given over a period of time, frown lines will reduce in intensity. If this procedure is continued, in many instances the lines will soften so much they will seem to disappear. Now the same procedure is used on other areas of the face where lines form. To allay any fears about injection toxin into our bodies : these injections only contain a diluted and purified version of the toxin; because of the purification process it is safe to use on people.

As we age the constant use of facial muscles leaves us with lines ; while many manufacturers have tried to produce creams that eliminate these wrinkles and creases, topical treatments can only last for a short period. Botox injections are very different. Injected directly into the muscles that control facial expressions and paralyzing them for up to several months, Botox effectively making it almost impossible for a person to use the muscles that produce wrinkles.

Because frown line, wrinkles and facial creases have all but disappeared, it provides the user with a look of someone much younger. For some people the obvious downside to this treatment is the cost; with production costs, it looks to remain expensive for some time to come.
